If you plan on having guests over to stay for a few nights, the last thing you want them to do is end up sleeping on the couch, or worse, the floor, simply because of a faulty air mattress.

So if you’re wondering what is the best air mattress for guests, you would have to look at the following factors.

  • Reliability: This is the highest priority when choosing an air mattress for your guests. If the air bed is not reliable, then you don’t have an air bed. Due to the nature of air mattresses, they are prone to air leaks, tears, punctures and faulty built-in air pumps. The first three problems are usually due to inadequate material used or poor workmanship.
  • Comfort: You want your guests feeling happy and relaxed in the morning when they wake up, and the only way to ensure that is to have a comfortable air mattress. The way to recognize a comfortable air mattress, even if you’ve never slept on one yourself, is whether it has a flocked material (even if you use a bed sheet, this still provides insulation) and the type of coil system it has (the patterns on the sleeping surface).

I consider the following air mattresses to be the best for guests, because they’re the most comfortable, generally reliable and good value also.

AeroBed Comfort Anywhere Air Mattress

Average User Rating: 4.3 Stars (4.3 / 5)

what is the best air mattress for guestsIf you have a couple over that cherish their space, the AeroBed Comfort Anywhere would be ideal since it’s a true queen size air mattress which features a headboard design to keep pillows in place. It has an attractive luxurious type feel and look to it, but there’s more to it than just its appearance.

It has a waterproof suede top for additional comfort and insulation, and is constructed from heavy-duty PVC which ensures that it doesn’t get easily punctured. The handheld inflation control is a nice touch, as it allows your guests to adjust the bed’s firmness from their bed, without having to go to the built-in pump. AeroBed Classic Air Mattress

Average User Rating: 4.1 Stars (4.1 / 5)

AeroBed Classic for guestsAeroBed’s Classic model has been around for many years, and has seen changes after every new release. However, it remains true to its roots, and still maintains a simple and elegant low profile design, constructed from heavy gauge PVC Vinyl.

It features an oval coil construction which provides support for the body, and a flocked surface for insulation and comfort. It doesn’t have a built-in pump, but includes a handheld AC pump for quick and easy inflation. Deflation is even faster with the 15-second Whoosh air valve. The AeroBed Classic is available in twin and queen sizes, and is most ideal for kids, teenagers as well as adults. Read the full review here.

SoundAsleep Dream Air Mattress

Average User Rating: 4.9 Stars (4.9 / 5)

SoundAsleep Dream Air Mattress for guestsPerhaps the highest rated rated air mattress on Amazon is the SoundAsleep Dream air mattress, which boasts low defect rates, high durability and of course, high levels of comfort also. Although it’s a new model on the scene, it seems that SoundAsleep has improved on many mistakes that other air bed manufacturers have made.

It’s durable because of its heavy gauge walls and strong seams. It’s comfortable because of the extra thick flocked sleeping surface which provides insulation. The 40 coils on the surface provide support for your body, and the motor is also quieter than those found on other air mattresses. This is a great air mattress for guests, and you can see it here.

SimplySleeper Series Air Mattress

Average User Rating: 4.3 Stars (4.3 / 5)

SimplySleeper SS-89Q Air Mattress for guestsOne of the most reliable air mattresses that I’ve come across is the SimplySleeper line, which boasts a heavy gauge PVC inner layer, laminated adhesive center and a breathable Polyester coating. That’s three layers of thick material designed to make the air bed as puncture proof as possible. For the most part, it has succeeded with only a less than 2.5% defect rate, when the industry average is 7.5%.

Its waterproof microfiber sleeping surface has been described by users as being firm and comfortable. Though some users feel that it’s too firm, others prefer it this way. The material is stretch resistant so it’s unlikely to expand inside overnight, which helps to maintain the firmness of the air bed. You can get it in twin (read full review here), full or queen size to accommodate your guests.
